Released in January 2019, Aaron Siegel's A Great Many received a "Best of Bandcamp" -- Peter Margasak describes that album as "a hypnotically pulsing gem that recalls the music of Steve Reich as much as it does Tortoise."
A Great Many, featuring clarinetist Christa Van Alstine, is a new work for six percussionists and clarinet that represents the latest collaboration in 10-year relationship between composer Aaron Siegel and Mantra Percussion. A Great Many, was commissioned by Chamber Music America in 2017 as a feature for Van Alstine, and subsequently performed at the Vancouver New Music Festival and at the Ecstatic Music Festival in NYC.
Pregones Theatre in the Bronx and Carnegie Hall present Mantra Percussion on March 6 at 7pm.
This free concert features performances of Julia Wolfe's Dark Full Ride, Sam Pluta's Four Sixes, and Tristan Perich's Observations.
